I am Ciara the owner of Creeve Cottage alongside my husband Bernard. We both work separate jobs and have 2 adorable kids under 4. You may say we have our hands full already. But our real passion lies in farming and in particular traditional methods of farming which was why Creeve Cottage began. After returning home from an extended period in Australia we set up our garden in 2018. I never really intended to turn it into a business, I always had a love for growing my own food - having grown up with it and so I just wanted to be self sufficient. But Bernard had different ideas. I soon realised he was right as lots of people wanted to be eating food grown in this country and grown without the use of chemicals or pesticides - so Creeve Cottage began. We believe in nurturing the land and honouring the family that have gone before us who lived on and worked the land. We want to give back and revive the vitality of the soil. We use no dig methods, we use rotted mushroom compost and we even make our own potting mix compost. The density of worms in it is to be admired (if that’s your kind of thing lol). We use open pollinated seeds and save our seed when possible. We have wild edges in our garden for hugelkultur. We incorporate biodynamic methods as much as we can as well. In our not so spare time - I like to bake, preserve food, knit, crochet and even sing. Whereas Bernard is the music man – he sings and can play any instrument you give him, he’s some man on the banjo. He also has hands on him for anything. Which is great when it comes to fixing the traditional machinery on the farm, or putting up any type of structure. We have many things planned for the future, but all will be revealed when the time is right. For now we must crack on with sowing seeds and transferring seedlings to beds. Also if the weather would work with us we could get our potato seed sown soon!
